HERE We GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok.
I've been not thinking in color for quite some time.
I love Black and White. and see in tonality more then in color....
so.
I decided .....I'm going to FORCE myself to shoot in color.

and in doing so....shot this VERY Blue Chevy Bel air Nomad in the Home Depot Parking lot this past Sunday.

it's sort of monochromatic... I guess....in a Blue way.

the image was opened in RAW and slightly tweeked.
then in photoshop I ran it through ColorefxPro and added a film emulation filter to it.... then a tweek of the Curves.....and I got this....

thoughts?

  1. my favorite part is the hot spot on the left of the picture. i kept looking for you in the chrome - i can see a guy standing there (on the grill).

  2. The good: Colors on the car, interesting texture in the chrome of the headlight. I love the composition, with prominent foreground and at a great angle to the car itself.

The bad: the sky isn't working for me. It's too close to the color of the hood, and the post sticking up does distract a bit. You work with what you got, of course. The colors are uniform huewise...almost like good heraldry (metal on color on metal)...which makes this feel more like a shot that would be used with advertising text over it or something. For such a dramatic angle it's a shot that gets out of the way of something else.

The shot's decent overall, and definitely makes you think about how to use color. You kind of eased into the whole thing by sticking with a primarily monochromatic target.

  3. At first I was drawn to the blue of the car itself, but now I find myself drawn to the red in the horizon. Good way to ease into colour though.
    I challenge you photograph plaid.

  4. That... that is a very blue Chevy. I dig the composition, I dig the technical skill (photographing damn near anything in bright sunlight can be a real pain in the ass.)

Maybe this is just too many years of snooty ass art school talking so take this with a grain of salt. But I feel like I've seen this image before. And from what I've seen on your website I feel like you can go further. I guess I'm curious, is this purely an exercise in color? Are you going for work that's purely aesthetic? Or are you trying to communicate deeper meaning? Gotta ask. /art nerdery

  5. Great composition. I'd take out the tree top and pole. I agree with Alex about the sky color too. How about some orange for an Op Art feel?
